The Star Press, where I spent 40+ years as a journalist, still has two veteran news reporters with decades of police, courts, government, business and other beat experience, and the paper also employs a couple of sports reporters. Not ideal, like in the 20th century, when we had two fully staffed competing newspapers, but not yet a news desert here, especially when you include BSU public media.

I started the newsletter after finding myself saying, “If I were still reporting, that would make a good story,” and having enough time in retirement to crank some out as a public service.
